Creating Useful Outdoor Living Space

Challenge: Backyards in the South Bay of Los Angeles are QUITE tiny. So what's a girl to do? Make the most of what she's got, of course! This small backyard had a brick patio off the French Doors, a good start - but to the right of it were patches of grass, some dead, some alive - and most of it muddy and unusable.

Solution: By creating a platform deck out of redwood, just a step up and off the brick patio, this backyard now is much more useful creating a seperate eating area on the deck and a new sitting area on the patio. Plus, with the fountain in the corner, I designed the decking to run on an angle to accent this corner fountain and draw the eye to it as it adds an abundance of atmosphere to this newly built exterior retreat.
