Asian Inspired Fireplace

Enhance decor with a key focal point

Challenge: Nothing really 'wrong' with the before fireplace, it was a dark brown brick surround with another, you guessed it, generic mantle. But it was very forgettable. Sometimes you just want to make a statement without yelling.

Solution: I designed a simple surround (as is with Asian design) using a sage-green 12" ceramic tile which was topped off with three bamboo-imprinted accent tiles plastered on to the center tile. Finally, the tile was framed out with a wood surround and the bottom anchor stones were placed as the hearth. Now the fireplace integrates very well into the room without having to try too hard.
